Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) is one of the greatest French poets. His poetry opened the way to a new conception of modernity, embodying the spirit of adventure. There was nothing that could not inspire a poem. It was no coincidence that his famous motto was: I enchant. Although The Fading Wizard is the work of the poet's youth, it shows him already "experienced and learned as an old sorcerer." Around the legendary figure of Merlin, he has thus mixed a curious cocktail of elements of poetry, theatre and novel, in which references to Arthurian legend, Greek and Celtic myths, medieval bestiaries as well as biblical images are interwoven. It is a work brimming with imagination and unusual humour, full of wonder, mischief, horror, love, eroticism and death.

This is the first time that The Perishing Sorcerer has been translated into Czech.
