Gary Snyder (1930) describes his 2015 collection This Present Moment as his last: "It took me ten years to get the feeling that it was enough. Of course I keep writing, but I don't think it's going to be another book."
For Snyder, a Buddhist, nature - nature, naturalness - is much more than we usually associate with the term - it is us, the trees and the birds, the landscape, but equally the machines, the log pullers or
generators or computers, things that interact with Nature in one way or another today. According to the poet
it would be a mistake to ignore them in poetry. But nature and naturalness also include birth and death...
