Animal Farm is an allegorical satirical novel by George Orwell, showing in the form of a fable political relations and events between people. The author consistently avoids explanatory commentary, but given the time the work was written, the most obvious analogy is with the Stalinist degeneration of the Soviet Union. The story involves a group of animals who rebel and drive the people out of the farm they live on and run it themselves. However, their rule gradually degenerates into brutal tyranny. This novel was written during World War II and published August 1945. Although it was not very successful until the late 1950s, it is now one of the author's best-known works, as is, for example, the anti-utopian novel 1984.
