Židovský bestiář

The Jewish bestiary by American painter, illustrator and writer Mark Podwal follows a long tradition that begins with the story of the first animals in the Bible. The author draws on Jewish sources, the Tanakh, the Talmud and the Midrashim, as well as legends and folk tales. He accompanies his drawings of wondrous creatures-including birds, fish, cattle, reptiles, and beasts, animals both real and mythical-with texts on their form and role as depicted in Jewish tradition, and provides an introduction on the distinctive genre of the bestiary.
