W aneb Vzpomínka z dětství

Perec's novel W or A Childhood Memory (1975) combines two seemingly unrelated texts: an autobiographical account of a young boy's life under Nazi occupation and a description of a fictional island near the Land of Fire, dominated and governed by the ubiquitous laws of sport. The perfect organization of this "ideal society" gradually degrades before the reader's eyes into a dystopian picture of an inhuman hell. The two textual planes are thus linked in meaning and their interaction creates a disturbing whole evoking the horror of the Holocaust.
