Vojín W.

Vojín W., or Woyzeck or Vojcek in Czech, is a dullard persecuted by ridicule, a naive and pure soul, and yet a murderer. His investigation and execution for murder out of jealousy, which took place in Leipzig in 1824, was one big humiliation, just like when in his youth he was caught by his master masturbating or whenever Vojcek tried to approach women. The attempt to escape would drag Vojcek into the bloody maelstrom of Napoleonic battles and bring only more suffering, a struggle for bare survival and, ultimately, ignominious desertion. Returning home will only breed anger, despair and crime. Whether Woyzeck was sane, what is reality and real memories and what is just the voices of his subconscious remains uncertain.
