A stylized travel diary of Japan's most famous poet (1644-1694), whose work is already familiar to Czech lovers of Japanese poetry from the popular collection A Few Flies and Me (DharmaGaia 1996). Basho's description of his wanderings in the northern provinces is considered a supreme example of deep poetic empathy with the Japanese landscape, and the result is a refined work of haibun prose where prose and haiku are in perfect balance.
