A comic novel about a man of many faces. Which one is the real one? All of them, or none of them? A man of grand gestures and petty weaknesses. Funny, gregarious, lonely, ambitious, misunderstood. A careerist, a seducer, a fanfare and a Don Quixote. A story about the masks we wear and the (in)possibility of really knowing each other.

Milan Rastislav Štefánik (1880-1919) was a politician, general, astronomer, scientist, world citizen and above all an adventurer. Perhaps the most original personality in modern Czechoslovak history. A few years after Štefánik's untimely death, sculptor Bohumil Kafka follows in his footsteps. He searches for who Štefánik really was - in the eyes of his family, friends, colleagues and lovers. But every encounter disrupts the image of this personality, which Kafka should immortalise in a monumental memorial.
