The book is a search for a starting point for a new approach to teaching bookbinding. This conception is focused on teaching the construction of bookbinding as an aesthetic element of an arts and crafts object. Bookbinding is presented as a building block of individual structural elements, which are defined on the basis of an analysis of historical bookbindings. In particular, bookbinding constructions from the first millennium AD are presented, when the development of bookbinding into the form we know today began and essentially ended. The description of the construction refers in particular to bookbindings assembled from components that originated in the Western civilization, and bookbindings assembled from two leaves, originating in China. The evolution of bookbinding construction is placed in a broader historical context. The book describes the confrontation between the bookbinding of the East and the West, which gave rise to new forms of construction and design elements.
