The Society of the Spectacle (1967) is the most important theoretical work of the French Situationist Guy Debord (1931-1994). In it, he creatively draws on Hegel, Marx and Lukács to examine the structure, functioning and contradictions of contemporary capitalist society, especially its Western form. The book has strongly influenced not only the social and cultural critique of the following decades, but also the practical form of protests that have sought and are seeking to "harm spectacular society." Her ideas found a wide resonance amongst the revolting French student population in 1968.
