Slavné vily Prahy 6 - Hanspaulka

Another of the publications prepared by FOIBOS BOOKS Publishing House Famous Villas of Prague 6 - Hanspaulka presents a selection of important villas from the previously unpublished great enclave of residential housing in Prague 6, the Hanspaulka villa district. The entire residential area is part of the cadastral territory of Dejvice and is also the most modern.

In terms of its extent, the whole Hanspaulka is one of the largest units of predominantly individual housing in Prague, with the most massive construction boom occurring between the two world wars, although the post-war period did not lag behind in its intensity.

The first modern residential house, the spectacular villa of Richard Klenka of Vlastimil, was built here at the end of the first decade of the twentieth century. The last ones were built in the very present. Among the builders and architects of the Hanspaul villas featured in the exhibition, we can mention important architects such as Antonín Engel, Evžen Liinhart, Ladislav Machona, Ladislav Lábus, famous actors Vlasta Burian, Lída Baar, sculptor Rudolf Březina, graphic artist Jiří Andrle and many others.

The authors of the book present on more than 264 pages53 famous villas. In addition, it is supplemented by a comprehensive urban development of the entire area, as well as an extensive chapter mapping a large number of original homesteads that form an integral part of the history of the entire enclave of Dejvice.

The author's team was led by Prof. Petr Urlich and Jiří Podrazil took contemporary photo documentation for the book.
