Rodné hnízdo
In this book, Jana Herrmann has recorded her family's history with humour and nostalgia, in a fundamental way connected to her own story. Rarely have we encountered such a convincing and, in the best sense of the word, entertaining depiction of the atmosphere of the 1950s and especially the 1960s and their sequels. The Herrmann family, consisting of a Czech mother, a Jewish father and one daughter, is cohesive and inextricably bound to each other despite the largely polemical debate that constantly takes place within it. Into this relationship enter relatives from both sides, including those who died during the war or went into emigration after 1968. The book Rodné hnízdo is, among other things, a story about the fact that we all belong somewhere and that despite all the difficulties and sometimes disasters, it is good to live. Even if it is not always easy.
