Jan Kotěra designed almost forty villas and family houses during his not too long life, of which more than half were realized. This publication, published as part of the Year of Jan Kotěra, the 140th anniversary of the architect's birth, presents all of his villas, family houses and residential colonies. The publication also focuses on three cities in which Kotěra left indelible traces. He strongly influenced the architectural form of the city of Hradec Králové, on whose transformation into a modern city he collaborated with the mayor of the city, František Ulrich. Kotěra's cooperation with Tomáš Baťa was also significant, for whom he designed a villa and a colony of residential houses for Baťa's company in Zlín. His work thus laid the foundations of the Zlín urban planning tradition. The third city is, of course, Prague, where Kotěra could not realize as many buildings as he deserved, but thanks to him and his work at two Prague universities, a modern view of architecture began to develop. The publication concludes with chapters on Jan Kotěra's pupils and successors, namely Josef Gočár and František Lýdie Gahur. In the end, there are also maps marking the individual houses of this famous architect.
