Reportáže a stati 1938-1959 (sv. 8)
During the years of the Protectorate, Jiří Weil was persona non grata, appearing only occasionally under a pseudonym or cipher; he was able to return to regular journalism only after the end of the Second World War, and until 1948 he contributed regularly to the weekly Kulturní politika and the monthly Literární noviny (which he co-edited). After the campaign against his novel Život s hvězdou (1949) and after his expulsion from the Union of Czechoslovak Writers (1950), he published sporadic articles related to his work at the State Jewish Museum in Prague, where he found employment and probably human asylum.
In contrast to the first and second volumes of journalism, whose articles dealt almost exclusively with the literature and culture of the Soviet Union, the author's interest extended to domestic writing and translations from other literatures. However, the reflection on Soviet literature did not cease even after the interruption of cooperation with communist publications (Red Law, Tvorba), and the author did not change his conception of revolutionary literature in principle.
Organized, prepared for publication, editorial note and commentaries written by Michael Špirit.
