Joseph Brodsky is known as a virtuoso of the classical verse form, which he modernised and took to the limit of its possibilities. And yet there are several remarkable poems in his oeuvre that completely resign themselves to classical verse, as if the author was at times tired of his own mastery and wanted to try something completely different. There are not many of them, less than twenty, included in this volume in their entirety. The collection follows on from Joseph Brodsky's two previous collections, Roman Elegies and Venetian strophes.
