The book Cava'at Ha-RIBaŠ: The Legacy of the Founder of Hasidism, Rabbi Yisra'el Ba'al Shem Tov, introduces readers to Hasidism, a stimulating popular movement that emerged within eighteenth-century Eastern European Judaism, through the example of one of the earliest Hasidic writings. In addition to the first English translation of Cava'at Ha-RIBaŠ, the book also contains the original Hebrew text, a commentary illuminating the content of each text, a scholarly introduction introducing the subject, and a glossary of Hebrew terms used. \nCava'at Ha-RIBaŠ ve-hanhagot yesharot (1793) refers by its title to the founder of Hasidism, Rabbi Yisra'el ben Eli'ezher, called the Ba'al Shem Tov. A total of 144 texts capture the teachings of the first three generations of the Hasidic movement, focusing on the ethics of everyday life. The texts are varied in content, united by a theme that resonates throughout the writings, which is the proper and complete service of the Lord. This translation gives Czech readers a unique insight into the thought of early Hasidism through a source text.
