One of the most frequently cited theories in the field of human motivation is undoubtedly Abraham H. Maslow. According to this author, human needs are ordered from the lowest to the highest. Higher motives emerge only when lower level needs have been satisfied. Maslow develops this basic theory and distinguishes between lower-level deficiency motivation (D-motivation) and higher-level growth motivation (B-motivation). He elucidates the characteristics of people with higher-level motivation who are self-actualizing, have peak experiences, and can be an inspiration to others. The book is a series of Maslow's lectures on these topics from 1954-1961. The work of one of the most quoted psychologists of the 20th century is published here in English for the first time.
