Ludwig van Beethoven

The life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven is presented in an illustrated book by Veronika Bílková. The book is intended for older children, but its content and form will surely delight art-loving adults as well. It focuses on the important milestones in the life of one of the most important composers in history, his major works and reveals music theory. The author has drawn information from, for example, the Lobkowicz Music Archive and thus reveals to readers the composer's lesser-known relationship with Prague, the Czech lands and local patrons. The extraordinary artwork also earned the author a nomination in the National Student Design Award.

The book Ludwig van Beethoven was created as a diploma work by Veronika Bílková in the didactic illustration studio under the supervision of renowned book author Renata Fučíková. In addition to illustration, Veronika is also a painter, musician and private piano teacher, from where she drew inspiration for this book. She not only wrote the book, but also illustrated it. She used the technique of relief painting, using a painter's spatula to achieve more plastic motifs and scenes. The illustrations are also accompanied by prints with piano hammers made from original Viennese mechanics, such as those played by Beethoven himself.
