Listy z rodinné kroniky
The writer and translator Heda Kaufmann turns to her own family and the earliest stages of her life in seven chapters of memoir. In her texts, she gradually traces her family roots, tracing and composing embedded scraps of details about her relatives, their character traits and patterns of behaviour. The memories, which relate to the course of everyday family life, work and leisure, make present a deeply experienced closeness and trust. The chapters devoted to schooling at the common and burgher school and later the girls' lyceum, classmates and teachers are equally vivid. Humour and irony are distinctive stylistic features of her literary expression. To this day, this book brings to light, among other things, the background of a woman who proved herself many times over by her courage and determination to defy the adverse circumstances of life.
