Lhářské paradoxy u autorů italské scholastiky
The book is devoted to the analysis of self-referential paradoxes in the Italian scholastic tradition of the fifteenth century. It aims at researching the original texts, reconstructing them by means of modern semantics and historically analyzing their sources. The corpus of texts examined includes those of Paul of Venice, Paul of Pergula, Cajetan of Thiene, Alexander Sermoneta, Frachantianus Vicentinus and Mengho Blanchella. Fifteenth-century Italian logic treats paradox as a topic with important implications for theoretical semantics and logical theories based on the semantic definition of truth and logical entailment. Specifically: paradoxes represent a (possible) failure of semantic and logical intuition, or (technically speaking) a counterexample to the definitions of truth and logical entailment and the systems of inference rules based on them. The basic assumptions of the principles presented can be systematically reconstructed by means of modern logic.
