This book is the result of a series of lectures given by the author during the summer semester of 1966 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The central concept of the lectures is logotherapy, a psychotherapy focused on the search for meaning in human life. Here Frankl emphasizes the systematic nature of logotherapy, which presupposes freedom of the will, the will to meaning, and the meaning of life. He focuses on specific logotherapeutic techniques as well as the application areas of logotherapy that treat various types of neuroses. Logotherapy is placed in the context of other schools of psychotherapy, and the final chapter of the book discusses its relationship to theology.
