How serious is the current crisis of truth? Trawny's eponymous book does not sound the alarm against alternative truths, does not panic or moralise, but analyses how things are with truth. Backed by the main figures of the philosophical tradition (Socrates, Kant, Nietzsche, Arendt), he shows that truth is no worse off today than in the past: truth has always been a problem, people have always argued about it, and it has always had its witnesses and martyrs. In fact, truth is always in crisis, because crisis belongs to its being: truth itself is a crisis, in the sense of the original Greek expression: in a crisis, opinions are shaken and a stronger argument emerges, and with it truth itself. In this way, the author provides us with a much better guide to navigate the current debate than contemporary clichés - accepting truth as a crisis makes it possible to give truth an appropriate meaning again in the public sphere.
