Antonín Líman (1932-2018), an expert on Japanese culture and literature, translator and teacher who worked for thirty years at foreign universities, presents a critical analysis of the key works of four star writers of 20th century Japan. Kawabata Yasunari, Tanizaki Junichiro, Ibus Masuji, and Shiga Naoji, about whom, he says, he was most impressed by their ability to return to the emotional certainties of the "primitive soul", unaffected by the poison of modern religions and ideologies.
