Jan Caramuel z Lobkovic
The book Jan Caramuel of Lobkowitz, Selected Aspects of Formal and Applied Logic, deals with the philosophical logic of the Baroque scholar Jan Caramuel of Lobkowitz (1606-1682). A theologian, mathematician, and logician, Caramuel anticipated in his formal logic some of the characteristic elements of modern mathematical logic, which did not reach development until the mid-19th century. Caramuel's work also shows interesting applications of the logical approach to a range of philosophical and theological topics. The book provides a systematic insight into the thought-world of a highly original early modern scholastic author and shows the enduring relevance of many of his conclusions.
