Háček + Čárka

The cartoon series Háček + Čárka was published on the last page of Sluníček between 1972 and 1974. Although it was a magazine for pre-schoolers, Jaroslav Malák's comic strip was not an ordinary picture story for the little ones. It featured a pair of children who were aware that they were "acting in a series". Their stories can thus be read in various ways: as a hilarious picture series, as a play with the expressive means of the comic medium, and as an unsuspected view of Czechoslovak society at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. In any case, it is a unique proof of the mature position comics reached in the Czech Republic fifty years ago.
