The volume Essays and Criticism presents a selection of the author's texts written between 1971 and 2016. 

Milan Nápravník (1931-2017) was a Czech surrealist poet, essayist, playwright, author of radio plays, painter, photographer and sculptor. In 1968, he went into exile, where, after temporary stays in West Berlin and Paris, he worked as a radio editor in Cologne, Germany. He is the author of several books - collections of poetry, prose and essays. With his assemblages, paintings, sculptures and photographs he has participated in numerous exhibitions in France, Great Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1996 he also exhibited in Prague at the Mladá Fronta exhibition hall, and after his death, Prague's Galerie Maldoror will hold a retrospective exhibition of Nápravník's artwork (2018). As a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), he was actively involved in the local political scene, especially in the 1970s and 1980s.
