The correspondence traces Kafka's emotional and artistic life in the years 1912-1917. A relationship that was interrupted several times was initially very favourable for Kafka's work - inspired by the frequent conflicts, he wrote The Trial and many of his best-known stories at that time. In his letters to his addressees, he confides his innermost feelings and insights, and his correspondence replaces his legendary diaries, which he otherwise kept meticulously. The book is provided with extensive supplementary apparatus.
