Češi, Němci, Židé
National Identity of Jews in Bohemia 1918-1938. Are the Jews a nation, a fateful community or a "mere" religion? Different answers to this question have divided and continue to divide Jews into a number of disparate groups. The author gives a long-overlooked and vivid picture of the very complicated process of the integration of Jews into Czech and German society during the First Republic, analysing its political, social and cultural aspects and dealing with the issue of anti-Semitism. On the basis of previously unused archival materials, it tries to explain the dramatic development of the Czech-Jewish and Zionist movements, and does not leave aside the liberal-oriented German-speaking Jews.
