The book presents the extraordinary testimony of the wife of an ambitious NKVD officer, Sergei Mironov, who, thanks to her husband's extremely fast and successful career, rose to the very top of Stalin's social elite, and after his execution later went through NKVD prison and the Gulag herself. Agnessa tells with extreme honesty about her life full of sharp breaks, without regretting anything. She recalls in no uncertain terms the bright and happy days of her youth, the luxurious life, the beautiful dresses and the ostentatious do-nothingism she indulged in at a time when millions were starving to death.
